A young man, an aspiring musician named Noel Espenida, heard the news, arranged some vocals in TMT style and joined the competition with his church choir. We were asked to be present for the final judging. Noel’s choir won both second and third place. After the show, Tim approached Noel, congratulated him and invited him to our final show at the Folk Arts Theater. Noel brought his whole choir, and after the show Tim again singled him out and spoke to Noel at length about his dream of studying music. For Noel, to study music was only a crazy dream due to the financial constraints of his family. Tim gave Noel one of his souvenir L. Dorado Caddy T-shirts and asked for his complete name and address.

Little did Noel suspect that Tim had a plan. A month later, Noel received a letter from Tim offering him a scholarship to study music, which Noel did, and he is currently a successful full-time music director and arranger in the Philippines. This is because someone saw his beautiful potential and gave him the opportunity. This is because Tim opened the door to make his dreams real.

.......Once the race to produce a song and an album for the Papal visit was on, Jamie threw herself into the project 100 percent. It took her two weeks to finish the lyrics of the title track. “After it was done, I gave it to Noel Espenida for the music, then I immediately sent it to Archbishop Soc. He liked it so he asked me to do the video. I contacted my brother, who contacted Landa Juan of Ligaya ng Panginoon, to do the actions. When everything was finished, we sent it all back to Bishop Soc. After several days, he called to say, ‘It’s official.’ I informed Star Records and we immediately recorded all the songs to complete one whole album.”

Gerphil-Geraldine Flores, Asia’s Golden Girl does The Impossible Dream again! This time with the legendary David Foster on the piano and as bandmaster. And this time, the Golden Girl clearly outdoes herself. I thought she would never surpass the beauty, intensity and theatricality of her Asia’s Got Talent Finals performance of the song. I was wrong, so dead wrong, but happily so. Note: Her rendition here at the recently staged Hitman David Foster and Friends Manila concert, August 18,  is based on a re-arranged version. Noel Dino Espenida, musical director and a very close friend of Gerphil, worked on the song  and produced a beautiful, refreshingly new version. Still as vocally challenging, if not more so, as the one Gerphil sang at AGT finals. Still sung in the classical crossover style that Gerphil favours. But observe,  it is with the fourth verse (copied below) that Noel put in a very discernible contemporary touch,   and which Gerphil captured so perfectly to the audience’s great delight:

With this background information I now understand, somewhat,  the very important role played by the  key person behind Gerphil’s astounding Impossible Dream version as well as her audition piece, Speak Softly, and semi-finals song, Love Story. His name is Noel Diño Espenida, a professional  musician, arranger, musical director, and owner-operator of Richwell Music Recording Studio in Metro Manila, Philippines.

How long has Noel been collaborating with Gerphil? How was his experience, specifically, in helping Gerphil with her performances in Asia’s Got Talent?

“Kuya Pedro” was composed and arranged by Noel Espenida, while “Huwaran,” recorded by Tinig San Jose and Himig Heswita, was composed by Fr. Arnel Aquino, S.J.

Rivera will sing “Kuya Pedro” live on October 21 during a musical program at the 5,000-seater San Juan Arena that coincides with Calungsod’s canonization, said De Villa. A live feed of the canonization rites in Rome will also be shown.

In August 2014, Dr. Mary Christine F. Palma, felt it was high time for our society to have a hymn. I had the honor of being assigned as the composer. Dr. Cynthia F. Tan recommended the genius of Mr. Noel D. Espenida, a seasoned composer – arranger, to lay down the final professional touches of our hymn. A fast, instrumental version was also created to be played during the culmination of SGOP events.
